The Grenada Trades’ Union Council (GTUC) located in Public Workers’ Union Building, was established on March 13, 1955, in the town of Gouyave, St. John and registered on April 4, 1955. It is affiliated with the International Trade Union Council (ITUC)and Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL).
The GTUC is the single umbrella Trade Union in Grenda which represents all Unions, Bank & General Workers’ Union (BGWU), Commercial & Industrial Workers’ Union (CIWU), Grenada Manual Maritime and Intellectual Workers’ Union (GMMIWU), Grenada Union of Teachers (GUT), Public Workers Union (PWU), Technical & Allied Workers; Union (TAWU) and Seamen Waterfront Workers’ Union (SWWU). Its main activities are representing and lobbying for the unionized and ununionized workers of Grenada. We are engaged in the tri and multipartite activities in Grenada since inception.
GTUC has representation among others on: Parliament (Labour Senator), NIS boards and Committees, G’da Food & Nutrition Board, G’da Port Authority Board, Labour Advisory Board, Wages Advisory Board, G’da Bureau of Standards, Social Partners etc.
GTUC main public activities are organizing and hosting of May Day (May 1) and Solidarity Week (October).
